Christmas in April - T-shirt Reconstruction to Sundress

After posting yesterday's project and then dying of laughter to a link on Facebook. I went to decide what project to do next. I originally pulled out this stretchy printed fabric, but I didn't really want a repeat of the last one, so I shoved it back into the box and pulled out an over-sized t-shirt. My mom randomly gave this shirt to me last weekend. So I've only had it since Saturday, and I still can't fathom why she thought I would want it, but I'm glad I had it. So I put it on my dress form took a picture, and immediately took a break. After showering I put the shirt on and had lunch and thought about what to do with it. I, of course, went back to pintrest to troll for ideas. I didn't really find anything that I loved, so I watched memes again then went back to it. An already too long story a little bit shorter: I finally found a few ideas that I chose to combine and made a short dress from it.

I started with this shirt
I cut off the top of the shirt straight across just below the front neckline. I also cut off the sleeves, and cut the sides open.
I stitched all the way down both sides, from top to bottom.
Then I marked the contours, the waistline and the width above my bust.
After stitching the new contoured lines...
I trimmed off the excess fabric.
Then I hemmed the raw edges of the top.
I cut open the sleeves at the seam and trimmed off the excess seams where they separated from the shirt.
I hemmed the raw edges of the long curved edge.
with the former edge of the sleeve towards the inside, I marked and pinned (and eventually sewed) the sleeves onto the bodice.
I did the same to the front. (I made sure the measurements were correct on my own body with a bra that I would actually wear with this.
Viola!!! I'm still not happy with my body, but the dress is comfy, kinda short, but comfy. I like how it turned out.
I was going to add a back bow cutout detail, but I don't think I have enough thread to finish that. Plus one of my problems in past projects has been overkill. So I'll leave it as is.
