Remnant Shirt |
I started out today with my pattern making book and a sketch pad, trying what to do with the remnants I'd purchased from Jo-ann's the other day. I ended up drawing a shirt with cap sleeves and a cowl neck. While piecing together the appropriate guides from the book, I realized that I already owned a shirt almost exactly like the one I'd just drawn up. In no way was I in the mood to actually draw up a pattern from scratch. In the back of my mind I was starting to recall a post I'd seen somewhere online about making patterns from already existing clothes. It took me a while to find my old shirt, but I found it with a pile of clothes put away to be fixed or altered. I did my best to fold it in half so I could trace each of the pieces onto my tracing paper. I ended up altering what the shirt was, to be more like what I'd drawn up. Meaning, I extended the front and back of the shirt at the sleeves so it was one continuous piece, so I wouldn't have to do sleeves separately After nudging and altering lines until I was content, I went ahead and cut the two pieces out on a fabric remnant it would fit on. Ta Dah! It actually worked. I ended up making it a bit larger than the existing shirt, which is probably for the best. It fits and I like it well enough. It's light and comfortable, and the cut and style I was actually going for. So; Success!
