This weeks project was a spur of the moment thing. I was packing up all of my belongings and decided to leave my sewing machine up until last. Good thing, because I had this idea and I like how it turned out.
I started off with two shirts from the same manufacture that were the same material, and two matching remnants. |
I marked the length of the 3/4 sleeve on my arm. |
I cut each of the sleeves off. |
I also cut the bottom of the shirt off at the waist. |
Then I measured up from the bottom where I wanted the lower hem to be and cut it from the other shirt. |
After that, I cut a long strip to put in at the waist. |
With right sides together I stitched the band at the waist of the top half of the shirt. |
Then to the bottom half of the shirt. |
Successfully making the top, significantly longer. |
Then I cut two bands the length of the arm holes. |
I stitched them closed, then with right sides together, pinned each to a sleeve. Then I flipped up and folded in half the band. |
Then the top was finished. Instead of stitching the skirt to the top to make a dress, I liked it as a shirt and opted to make a separate skirt |
I took the remaining remnant fabric and stitched it all together in a long loop. and did a wide hem at the top. I don't currently have adequate elastic, so I put in a drawstring for now, then hemmed the bottom and viola! |
It is finished. The skirt's kinda bunchy under the shirt, but not enough for me to hate it. |
